Breaking in a New Journal

Many people end up ruining the spine of a journal because they don’t know there is a proper way to break it in before they use it.

Today I’d like to share with you how to properly prepare your journal for use so that your spine doesn’t end up falling apart after weeks of regular use as you press pages down to try and flatten them so you can write in your book.

To begin take your journal whether hard bound or soft and lay it on a flat service on it’s spine. Open the cover and press it down on the left so that it’s flat or as flat as the binding will allow if it’s a softcover book. Then open the back flap and press it down to the right, against the table. You will need to hold the pages in the middle upright as you do this.

Then choose approximately 8 to 12 pages at the front section (left side) and press them down against the cover, flattening them against it as best you can. Do the same on the right side, pressing against the back cover of the book on the table.

You are going to repeat this process going left to right with the pages until you reach approximately 16 to 24 pages in the center that you will split in the middle and press down.

Doing this process will help your book to lay flat more easily as you begin to write within it and prevent the spine from coming apart as you use your  journal. This can also be done for any book you read or use for school and leisure. This will help your books last longer.

We hope this helps you with using a journal so that your experience is more pleasant overall.

Blessings.
